St. Francis House: Our New Home

We have officially moved to Big Woods!  We closed on our house Friday and are now all settled in at our first "mission" house.  The kids and I participated in the community morning prayer this morning while Travis went off to work.  The girls and I helped out in the office answering the phone and stuffing envelopes while the boys went scouting the property.  Thanks for all the prayers for a smooth transition!  It has been great so far!

Here's a few shots of our house and some of the other community houses here at Big Woods Mission.

  3. I just found you this past weekend. I am amazed at all you've done, and how far you've come with all the kids!! Your new home looks wonderful. I'm curious how much stuff you could actually bring? And how you will do school, now and when you are sent off to wherever you end up going? (I'm just curious, I support you and think you are doing God's will, and think it's wonderful!) Your family is beautiful.

    1. Welcome, Jamie Jo! Thanks for all the kind words! We would NOT have been able to do this without God's grace!

We sold most of our belongings. We did keep a lot of things that were needed here at Big Woods whether in our house or some of the other houses. But mostly we came with our clothes, musical instruments, and our school & prayer books.

We kind of homeschool year round, so when we need to take a break we can. We use an online school called Classical Liberal Arts Academy. The kids work independently for the most part. Depending on where we actually are "stationed" we can continue with our regular homeschooling or join the local school system.

Here's a blog from a missionary mom about schooling while on missions. It really helped the "teacher" in me to be OK with whatever God has planned for our kids.

    1. Our kids have not----yet! But they are dying to jump in. Some of the other missionaries and kids swim in the pond. The gators are usually removed as soon as they are discovered. This one just hasn't been caught and removed yet. I think our kids will wait until he's gone before taking a dip! :)

You may also see armadillos in that country.

  6. I like what you’ve done with the kitchen area. Despite the seemingly limited space, you’ve managed to make it work, with room to spare. And it looks like you can still add a couple of cabinets for storage on the other side of the wall.

Also, what a wonderful lakeside view. It must be amazing to wake up to that view every day.
